Direct Sales Business Coach Excellence

Throughout my life, I have been called Barbara Walters because I am so curious of others. Questions always seemed easy and natural. Add to that my career in running my direct sales business for over 13 years and what I have accomplished to build a multimillion dollar organization. I was relatively confident that I had a good grip on what I was going to expect in the Coach Excellence program.

As I embarked on my journey of Coaching Excellence  in January 2010, I was not aware of the truly amazing impact the tools learned over the twelve week period would help me as a person, and a business mentor and leader.

Prior to participation in this program, I had some understanding of coaching. This insight came by way of the DSWA Elite Leadership Program as well as other coaching programs I had participated in or with skills I had adapted from coaches from my past.

DiSC Communication For Direct Sales

While reviewing DiSC Communication styles, I had my first of many BFO (Blinding Flash of the Obvious). Of all the training I had learned prior to Coach Excellence, this had been the one tool I had used to propel my business to greater heights. Understanding that Coaching Excellence incorporated DiSC excited me. I had never experience the connection of the two in previous coaching training with others. It had always seemed that the coaches were directing me in their style and their agenda, not mine. This is what I thought coaching was.

Having learned that coaching style, I realize I had learned to adapt it as well in my business and personal life. I guess you could say I used my questions to lead others to my direction, my agenda, and in my way. Could you call this manipulation? I would think so. With this new insight of applying both skills, I was hungry for the possibilities. dswa coaching

Oprah often says, “When we know better we do better!” Mind open, I was ready to say, bring it on. I began to trash my old coaching beliefs and opened my mind for the possibilities of a NEW way to coach.

You see, in my past, I was working really hard to create the question that would lead them in the direction I wanted them to go. I was trying to incorporate training at the same time as coaching. It was exhausting to say the least. I reality I was really a trainer with questions. On my office wall I have a quotation from Maya Angelou. “The wise woman thinks twice and speaks once.” Coming away from coach training in Dallas and seeing this quote had me thinking. Why was this so important to me?  Clearly with my new insight of coaching, I need to move myself away from trainer and move toward a more enlightened coach. I had so much to learn.

DSWA Coach Excellence Program

When we reviewed understanding how to formulate coaching questions, I started to get a good grip of where I could start with effective coaching questions. Now, I am not going to say that once I received the DSWA Coach Excellence coaching and training I was well on my way. What I did discover is how different the questions sounded in comparison to what I had been doing.  Again, releasing the outcome cropped up. I was becoming conscious that my belief system was built on fear. I was obviously afraid that if I let go of the outcome, I would also let go of the success in my business. This is a belief that I needed to have a paradigm switch on myself.

A Team Meeting Game to Stretch Party Plan Comfort Zone

Activities or games are often a good way to keep team training meetings fun and exciting. A good game or activity is one that team members will enjoy, learn something from, and be able to apply to their direct sales business. As the team leader, you should ensure that the exercises are adequately explained and properly reviewed when completed.

Home party plan team members can learn important lessons during team meeting exercises. They can learn how to deal with different situations, how to understand differing viewpoints, and how to use human behavior to benefit their business. Exercises and games also teach strategy, teamwork, analysis, group dynamics, and decision-making skills.

Home Party Plan Team Training Game

home party plan presentations A great exercise to use for home party plan training sessions is the early bird/second mouse game. To do this exercise, split the team into two groups. One group can be the early bird and the other group can be the second mouse.

Allow each group to create a two-minute presentation on why their strategy is best for your business.

The first group will give a presentation on why it is best to be an early bird: why the first business gets the customer. The second group will give their presentation on why it might be best to be the second mouse: the company who follows can give a better presentation and lure the company to purchase their product line.

Home Party Presentation Skills

Everyone in home party plan should practice doing presentations to perfect their skills, so this is a great way to perfect skills.  Once both sides give their presentations, there are several follow-up exercises.

  • You can set aside another twenty minutes or so to have a debate on the subject.
  • You can also ask each individual what the opinion was before the presentation and if it changed after both presentations.
  • Another follow-up exercise is to have the groups switch and develop a presentation for the opposite opinion.
This early bird/second mouse exercise teaches teamwork, quick thinking, debate skills, presentation skills, and an understanding of how groups work together and make decisions. It also forces people to look at opposing viewpoints, and merge personal views with group opinions.

This exercise is one of the best because it can be used for groups of almost any number and it applies to most types of businesses.

Though home party plan consultants work alone at home without coming to meetings, being part of a team provides them with opportunity, support, and differing opinions.

Team Training Game

This game strengthens the team aspect of direct sales and forces team members to think like a team and consider offer viewpoints. Direct sales consultants who can consider different strategies and work as a team are usually more profitable and successful. In addition, fun games engage both sides of the brain enhancing learning and will strengthen the bond at team meetings so the team will keep coming back for more!

Mental Equipment For Coaching

I was blessed with twelve weeks of mentor coaching as part of the Coach Excellence program. This experience was extremely powerful for me. First and foremost, I found the greatness in myself. The program is based totally on my own agenda and what I choose to discuss.

Quite different from other ordinary coaching training I have experienced. This experience enabled me to see a clear picture of what a coach – client relationship is about.

direct sale coaching As coaching was modeled for me to absorb within I was able to take it forward in building my own relationships with team, family, friends and clients alike.

By asking more questions I can better assist others.  I also have learned to approach things in a more methodical method.  Taking steps forward in a way that makes sense to build from.  I definitely have a better balance of business verses my personal life.  I am able to clock in and clock out without feeling guilty in either arena.  I have developed more control of how I handle challenging situations.  I take the time to process my options with any given situation.  In the past, I have always just reacted.  I now go through a process that allows me to take one step at a time and make the best decision in support of others as well as myself.   I am equipped with the knowledge how to break things down into bite size pieces so that they may become attainable in a reasonable time.

I have found a new understanding of ‘who owns the problem’.  I am now equipped with a clear understanding of how to evaluate who owns the problem.  If there is an issue, I look at it objectively, decide if it is anything I have control of, or if I do not have control over.  If I do have control, I break down the issue into pieces and develop a possible solution(s).  If I cannot control the issue, I accept that it is out of my hands and begin to work on the solution of accepting the things I cannot change.  The clarification that comes with this process is making a huge difference in my personal life, my family’s lives as well as my business life.  Most everyone that I work with has noticed the change in me for the better.

As I contemplate all of the tools that I gained as a result of the Coach Excellence Program, I find myself very well equipped!  I now have systems in place for my scheduling, for my phone messages, for dealing with a large number of emails.  I so appreciated learning more about time management.  Those tools alone were worth the cost of the course.  To be equipped with the skills that allow me to have control of my time, has become an invaluable part of my everyday life.  Creating a ‘to do’ list that I can truly work from on a daily basis and marking off accomplishments as the tasks are completed is very rewarding.  Knowing I have the list down first, then prioritizing the tasks in an order of necessity has actually allowed me to complete more of my list.

I recommend that everyone in direct sales check the schedule for Coach Excellence and find a program near you!
